The most significant form of globalization Egypt has seen was the Islamization of Egyptian Society. When Islam spread like wild fire, and Egypt was invaded, Almost all of the population converted to Islam. This was both cultural and political globalization because the government basically forced it on them. Globalization has changed Women’s rights in Egypt. “Divorce rates have increased rapidly as women’s rights, education, employment and economic independence have improved.” Globalization has helped to restructure the countries economic system. The country transformed itself to a free market economy thanks to the help of IMF (The International Monetary Fund) and the World Bank. They have helped to develop this countries economy. According to the KOF (acronym for the German word Konjunkturforschungsstelle, meaning cycle research) Index of Globalization, Egypt was around 40 to 60 percent globalized. Globalization has helped to shape Egypt all together. I felt this was important to include as well, “Globalization is having an impact on Arab society in many ways. But beyond a sense of shared Arab identity, it is only in some specific respects- notably in regard to the global networking of certain streams within Islamism, and among some elements of the modern middle class- that there is arguably much evidence of a sense of interdependence and commonality at a global level between the populations of the Arab Middle East and non-Arab citizens of other countries.” (Bowker Pg 8)
