Considering Egypt is one of the earliest civilizations in the world, it’s no secret that Egypt has an extremely long line of history. My timeline began with the First Settlers in Egypt around 7500 B.C. , and the earliest known writing, Hieroglyphics, was developed in this country around 3100 BC. Around the same time, King Narmer Unified Egypt. Egypt is famous for it’s famous pyramids, and the first one was build in 2650 BC. That was followed by Alexander the Great conquered Egypt in 332 BC. Of course there was a lot of change throughout history, but some I am going to mention helped changed the country. The Suez Canal opened in 1869. This canal connected the Mediterranean with the Red Sea, This was important because it cut in half the distance ships needed to travel between Europe and some of Asia. It also took 10 years to build. Next, was in 1914 when Egypt became a protectorate of Britain, giving Britain control over Egypt. This only lasted until 1922 when Egypt declared independence from Britain. Another important event for Egypt was the 6-Day war, in which Israel defeated Egypt, along with Jordan and Syria. The Israeli troops occupied the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt. Another big historical event was in 1971 when Egypt and the Soviet Union signed the Treaty of Friendship. This lasted until 1976 when Answar al-Sadet ended the treaty. Also, in 1971, the Aswan High Dam was completed. It was said to have changed the country by improving irrigation, Agriculture, and industry. In my opinion, the most important historical event was the Muslim Conquest of Egypt in 2000. This was when the Arab leader Amr Ibn al-As lead an invasion into Egypt, and captured Alexandria. This then made the majority of the Egyptian civilization convert to Islam. Overall, there were many historical events that changed the country significantly, making it into what it is today.
